Car Bumpers

Bumpers on cars are designed and required by the NHTSA to minimize the cost of repair to a vehicle in a low speed crash and have absolutely nothing to do with mitigating injury to an occupant.

FMVSS 215 was changed from a safety standard to a regulation to reflect this.

Following a low speed crash the lights have to work, the doors have to open and close and it can’t leak emission or fuel.
